The Atlantic Paramedic Academy was founded in 2001 by St. John Ambulance. In December of 2008, Medavie EMS Inc. became the new owner.
The goal of the Atlantic Paramedic Academy is to provide accessible and comprehensive training to ensure that high quality paramedic care is delivered. It is the administration’s belief that the Academy’s environment is to promote human dignity, mutual respect, justice, security of all persons and ethical behaviour.
APA is accredited for our career Paramedic programs with The Canadian Medical Association (CMA). Our Paramedic programs follow the National Occupational Competency Profile (NOCP’s) as developed by the Paramedic Association of Canada (PAC). We are guided by a Course Advisory Committee comprised of Students, Nurses, Educators, Doctors, Ambulance Providers, Hospital Representatives, Paramedic Associations, Professional Medical Associations and Faculty. We are members of the Canadian Association of Career Colleges and recognized by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour and the Department of Public Safety as well as many local and national professional associations.
You may have heard that the Atlantic Paramedic Academy is tough. Days are long, the exams are hard, papers are held to a high standard, and our expectations are very demanding. Our program may be challenging but the Atlantic Paramedic Academy wants you to succeed and we have the resources to help make it happen.
